I discovered my passion for teaching through Paaralang Pantao (School for Humanity) an informal school (back in 1994) located in Payatas (a former dumpsite), Quezon City, Philippines reaching out to scavenger kids then. Back in Singapore, I enrolled in the National Institute of Education, NTU and formally became an MOE teacher at CHIJ Primary. However I wanted to bring the classroom to those who could not afford fees, uniforms and books. So I left the formal education system and started a project in Payatas, focusing on education for underprivileged kids. Since the project took off, I’ve been conducting English tuition classes for students in the Singapore education system, running facilitator training programs (for overseas educational projects) and sometimes I write curriculum.
I specialise in teaching English for the PSLE and I continue to teach my students when they move up to secondary school because I love watching them grow up!
